SELF CARE
Updated: May 9, 2021
How important it is for our health, and how to implement self care habits into your lifestyle.
To start off, what is self care?
Self- care is a general term that describes everything you do for your mental, physical, and emotional well being. As simple as that sounds, many of us pay little attention to self care. The first step into approaching self care is being conscious of your well being.
Why is it important?
Self- care encourages you to maintain a healthy relationship with yourself so that you can act in a positive way with others. You cannot give others what you don’t have yourself, and while some may misconstrue self-care as selfish, it's far from that. When you pay adequate attention to your well-being you're not considering your needs alone. This renewed energy with self-care makes you the best version of yourself and people around you also benefit from the renewed energy and joy you exhibit. Self- care is also important because you give yourself time to renew and reflect after being productive. With our busy lives and schedules it's important to take the time to relax and focus on yourself.
Self Care Sundays
I think that practicing self-care is constant, however, as a student and someone with a busy lifestyle with school and work, it's hard to make the time for a longer self-care period. Dedicating a day to just relaxing and only completing a little bit of school work is great. Sundays are my dedicated days to recharge and prepare for Monday, and this is a great approach because you ease yourself into the school week but because you have time to relax you are ready to work hard and study on Monday.
What you can do on a self-care Sunday

Apply a hair treatment- I love olaplex number 3!
Declutter your space
Go for a walk in nature
Put on a face mask
Call a friend you haven’t talked to or seen in a while
Go out for a coffee

Schedule for the week
Create a vision board
Deep clean something in your home
Listen to podcasts- I am currently loving the podcast made by Noam Raiter called the You are Not “Too Busy” Podcast
Exercise
Watch a movie
Spend time with family and pets
Expanding on the five areas of self- care and applying them to your everyday life
Physical- stay consistent with intuitive exercise
Emotional- practice positive self talk, stress management, coping skills, compassion etc.
Psychological- self reflect, pay attention to your inner experience (thoughts, feelings, attitudes, and so on)
Spiritual- Meditating, spending time in nature, donating money/ volunteering, practicing gratitude, etc.
Professional- Organizing/ decorating your workspace, balancing your workload and taking breaks, taking the time to chat with peers and coworkers, etc.
We hope you learned a bit more about self-care and can work towards prioritizing it for a better peace of mind:)
xoxo stay chic,
Elena
